Subject of the commemorative coin:
500th anniversary of the promulgation of the decree issuing a second series of coins during the reign of Emperor Charles V
Description of the design:
The inner part of the national side of the coin features the portrait of Emperor Charles V, together with the text “Carolus V”. To the left of this is the five-hundred-year-old gold Carolus guilder, which was put into circulation after the issuance of a second series of coins during the reign of Emperor Charles V. Since the Royal Dutch Mint will be striking the coin, the mint mark of Utrecht, a mercury staff, is located at the bottom, together with the Belgian mint master mark and the coat of arms of the municipality of Herzele. The coin also features the initials LL, a reference to the designer of the coin, Mr. Luc Luycx. The country code BE and the year 2021 are located to the left. The outer ring of the coin features the twelve stars of the European flag.
