Subject of the commemorative coin:
The Paulskirche in Frankfurt am Main
Description:The design shows a classical perspective on St. Paul's Church in Frankfurt (the "Paulskirche" was the seat of the first freely elected legislative body in 1849 and is considered the cradle of German democracy), which is therefore the perspective with the greatest recognizability. The design brings out the tension between the dominant tower and the elliptical structure of the church building. The slightly accentuated staircase has an inviting character and at the same time adds strength to the inscription "HESSEN" underneath (the state of Hesse where St. Paul's Church is located). The core also features on the left side the year “2015” and the mint mark of the respective mint (“A”, “D”, “F”, “G” or “J”), and on the right side the indication of the issuing country “D” and the engraver’s mark (the initials “HH” – Heinz Hoyer). The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.
