 Independence from Great Britain on 21 September 1964 (fourth in the 'Constitutional History' series)

 Description of the design:
 The national side of the coin features a detail of the bronze monument commemorating independence, designed in 1989 by the artist Gianni Bonnici. It depicts a young woman, representing Malta, carrying the Maltese flag. At the right, in semi-circle, is the inscription “MALTA – Independence 1964” and at the bottom “2014”, the year of issuance. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European Union.
