 150th Birth Anniversary of Jože Plečnik

 Description:
 A detail of the large window of the reading room of the National and University Library with a pillar in front of it. The letters AR H. PLE Č NIK are incorporated into the window, in this order. They are a metaphor for the architect’s signature, which he also shows in his own work. The letters are incorporated into recessed window openings and can be understood (in the language of architect Plečnik) as spatial architectural interventions, as emphases, incorporated into façades or as geometrically designed objects. The composition reflects an idea of space that reflects the architect’s rich world of ideas. The pillar is central and in this way marks the space of the coin, as it were determining the relationship between outside and inside or between foreground and background; a theme that Plečnik often uses when designing space. In this way, the composition becomes a spatial miniature, space within space, multi-layered and mystical. At the bottom is the inscription “JOŽE PLEČNIK”. On the left is the year “1872” in vertical position, on the right are also the country of issuance “SLOVENIJA” and the year of issuance “2022” in vertical position. The outer ring of the coin depicts the twelve stars of the European flag.
